Can the Apparent Assumption of 96 PPI by ArcMap be Changed?

Since ArcMap can get the number of pixels in the horizontal direction from the system and knows the (real world) map extent, it only needs to know the ppi (pixels per inch) to compute an accurate map scale.  From my calculations, this means that ArcMap is using an assumed value of 96 ppi. Unfortunately my monitor has a ppi of about 85, and thus the map scale given in the data view is incorrect. The correct map scale should be about 12.5% small than shown by Arc Map.

Is there any way of inputting the correct ppi into ArcMap for a given monitor so that the displayed map scale is correct?
