Only one map per application explanation

Under the changes for 1.0.1, it mentions that with the new run time, "Only one map can be running within an application at a time"

I have an application that has two maps. One map acts as a "home" sort of map containing all of our functionality, while another "throw-away" map occasionally gets launched (in a different activity), with a touch listener, and asks for some user input, then is closed.

Since the new 1.0.1 release, functionality with the second throw-away map isn't completely broken - but it's not 100% working. The map no longer displays graphics on it. It will load the base maps and display those just fine, but graphics layer that we create and draw to (using a touch listener) is no longer drawing the graphics to the map. The graphics are created when the user draws, and exist in the layer, and look legitimate, but there are no visible graphics on the map.

My question is: Why aren't the graphics visible in the second throw-away map? Are there any specific/further details as to WHY we can't run more than one map at a time, if they are contained in different activities?
