stopping a script in IDLE

As a way of clearing up memory in an extremely memory-intensive process, I need to quit python after the script has been run.  By using "quit()" or "exit()" I am getting a confirmation message that requires my interaction anyway.   Is there a simple way of quitting the execution of a script without my interaction?

thank you for any hint.
