flow accumulation in area with one major river

Discussion created by antonioroccos on Nov 30, 2011
Hi all

I have a rather theoretical question: e.g. when we have one major river running in it's floodplain, surrounded by smaller tributaries, I think that calculating flow accumulation makes no sense, since the inflow of the large river is not determined by the tributaries but mainly by the conditions upstream.

Anyone some suggestion about this? Is there a way around?

A possible solution would be to consider the entire watershed of the major river, but that's rather difficult in practice.
