Spatial Analyst - Buffers?

What is the easiest way to build a buffer around a raster layer using the spatial analyst tools?...(no vector overlay or buffer tools)

Not sure which tool to use.

Needs to be a distance buffer on a polygon layer converted to raster.

Any ideas?

Expand    for an outward buffer
Shrink     for an inward buffer

When expanding, I see the number of cells...

Is the zone value the distance I want to expand by?

The number of cells is the buffer size (# of cells * cell size = distance)
zone is the class/zone to expand, hence, if you want to buffer all class 1 zones, then you would use it or provide a list of values.  It is all documented in the help files, for example, for version 10 of ArcMap
