I have an 8 character field where character 1, 2-4, 5-6 and 7-8 each represent different attributes. I was wondering if there's a way in ArcMap to extract the appropriate characters (Mid(string,2, 3) for example) and group and symbolize the like features without having to create and calc new fields and symbolize accordingly?
