hi
i have installed the arcgis api for javascript but i need to use it with my own maps locally,what should i do??do i need to install a server??if yes ,what server to install and how??im using vs2010(.net)

Yes you need ArcGIS server.
Also if you use vs2010 I would recommend to use ArcGIS API for Silverlight
