Will the contour tool create contours in the default units of the DEM you use? If you need to change units from meters to feet or vice versa is there a setting you can use to make this adjustment?

Contour does use the z units from the DEM by default. You can use the Z Factor and Contour Interval parameters to have the output go directly to some other unit. For example, in my test case, I have a DEM that is in WGS_84 geographic with z units of Meters. I ran Contour with a 20m interval and z factor of 1. Next I ran the tool again with a Z Factor of 3.2808 because I want my contours in feet, but I also had to change my interval to 65.616 (20*3.2808) so that I would get the exact same lines as before. Another option you have is to just take the Contours you have and add a new field to the table, then calculate the new value = contour value * some unit conversion factor if all you want to know is what the value is in some other unit.

How about the default behavior of ArcGIS Pro when adding a layer with a defined “projected coordinate system”?
