Georeferencing/aligning a points layer with satellite imagery

I have created a points layer by entering northing and easting coordinates that were taken by a hand-held gps into excel.  However, the points are slightly unaligned with the satellite imagery that is being used as a base layer (skewed about 50ft to the east).  I've tried exporting frame of the base map as a jpeg and georeferencing it to the points layer, but the scale of the points relative to the newly imported map image is disrupted.  The layers are projected in UTM.  Could my calculations from decimal minutes seconds to easting northing be off? Or is this an issue with uncertainty between the satellite imagery and the GPS coordinates taken?  If so how do I align them?
