Spatially joining points to specific, overlapping polygons

Hello all....

I am trying to join points to polygons....my challenge is that a single point might fall within several polygons, and I only want it joined (and summed) to the polygon with which it shares a field value.

Is there a straightforward way to do this?

I've never used it but I just came across a geoprocessing script gallery entry called Spatial Join By Attribute Matching.

That appears to be for point and lines, not polygons, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up!
