Navigator crashes when opening mobile map package

We've recently experienced that ArcGIS Navigator stopped working for numerous field users. When trying to open Navigator the app displays a blank screen and then crashes.

These are users that's been using Navigator for years and are suddenly experiencing this problem. It seems to be specifically when trying to open the mobile map package. They are all using the standard provided Esri-nav mmpk file for South Africa that's downloaded from Navigator.

This has also been tested on some brand new mobile devices. Navigator starts off fine after downloading the app and signing in, but as soon as a mobile map package is downloaded and you try open the map, it crashes.

Some relevant points regarding these users experiencing the issue:

  • Users are on Android devices with Android 9 or Android 7.1.2 (Blackview, Huawei, AGM, Armor)
  • Users are assigned Navigator licenses
  • Latest Navigator version 20.0.1 installed
  • Users are on AGOL

Has anyone else experienced something similar with Navigator or know of possible solutions to this issue?

Hi @Anonymous User , did you find a solution to this? We're seeing the same behaviour as you on Android phones. This is on Android 11 and 10.

Thanks,

Birk

Hi @BirkSlipersæter1 , we did found a solution to this with the assistance of the Esri Navigator Dev team, although not yet an implementable solution. The current Navigator for Android is running on an older runtime version which needs to be updated to the latest runtime. Unfortunately they would not be able to push through another Navigator update as they are focusing on getting Navigator functionality in to Field Maps instead.

Hi @Marinel_Willemse Thanks a lot for the quick answer! So did you get around it somehow? Or are you still unable to use navigator for Android? It's a bit unclear to me. Is there a bug # for this case?

Kind regards,

Birk

@BirkSlipersæter1, apologies for that unclear answer. Unfortunately we did not get around it, the only way around it seemed to be for Esri to update of the runtime version which won't come out for Navigator at this stage. So we are no longer making use of Navigator for Android. There is no bug #.
