Hello,

I tried to reproduce this example http://carto.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MinimalGallery/index.html?appid=b3d1fe0e8814480993ff5ad8d0c62c32#v...

I cannot find the way to change the colors of the proportional symbols according to a string variable like the political party... When I go to "vary symbology by attribute - by color", only numerical variables are proposed.

Thank you for your help!

Mél

Hello Melanie,

Unfortunately I can't see the map you are referencing, but I think I know what you are looking for.

The trick is to apply the color before the size.

For Primary Symbology, choose Unique Values.

For Field 1, choose the string field (for example political party).

At the top of the Symbology pane, click the green Vary symbology by attribute button.

Expand the Size section.

For Field, choose a numeric field (for example number of votes)

Check the Enable size range box.

Adjust the Minimum and Maximum sizes to suit your map.
