Currently, Business Analyst Web App allows users to to create custom variable based on fields/attributes from a data layer.

However, is it possible to create a variable that is not from a data layer, e.g. a constant? A use case is where I want to derive a value in my Report by multiplying a data field by a fixed number. It currently seems that I must also create a field to hold the multiplier. Is this actually the case or am i missing a functionality?

Hi Abel,

You should be able to create the desired custom variable by the following workflow:

  • Open the Create Custom Variable dialog and select Advanced Options
  • In Step 1, Browse for the desired data variable, and drag and drop the variable below into Step 3 where you will "Assemble your custom variable
  • In Step 2 "Choose operators", Click on the multiplication * symbol
  • The multiplication operator will be added into step 3 to the right of the selected variable
  • Now, in Step 2 "Choose operators", Click on the Number # symbol
  • The number field box will be added into step 3 to the right of the multiplication *
  • Click inside the number box and enter the desired number (multiplier)
  • Click the Save button to Name and Save your custom variable

Please let me know if this workflow accomplishes your desired customer variable and properly answers your question.

Thank you for using Business Analyst Web.

Best Regards,

Donna
