I have been trying to do some reading around using ArcGIS Desktop on Citrix but have been unable to find an answer to the question about licencing.

As Citrix functions by running multiple copies of the same process (ArcMap.exe) on the Citrix server and assuming that we are happy with all users having the same level licence do we need to only purchase one licence for the Citrix server to access or do we need licences for each of the anticipated users?

Hi Geoff, you will need to use concurrent licensing (one license per user) and the Esri License Manager if distributing ArcMap through Citrix or another virtualization system.

The technical article is encouraging.   Could this work in the following situation?   I have a concurrent license server running providing the license on CITRIX for ArcMap.  There are 6 Advanced and 10 Basic licenses.   I would like the user to choose which level they want to run.  Is that possible with the method in the article.

Is it also possible to have it fall over if the Advanced are all taken?   I thought of creating a second license with one license server with Advanced and one with Basic so it can fall over to a different server but I'm not sure about the extensions.  Would the extensions from one server be used with the desktop license from another server?

Hi,  In my first paragraph above, my test has it working on CITRIX per How To: License ArcGIS Desktop on Citrix (esri.com) for ArcMap.  This batch file system also works on a desktop with ArcMap and with ArcCatalog.   I tried this with ArcGIS Pro and it doesn't work.  Is there another Set parameter available to do this?  Thanks.
