Does anyone here have any experience with running a tool or script to create a current zoning layer from polygons of historical zoning data? In other words, I currently have a layer of zoning polygons (much of them overlapping and no longer relevant as areas were rezoned again and again) and what I need to end up with is a layer of only the most current zoning type for any particular area. In my mind I had come up with some kind of tool to check the date of a zoning poly, clip that most recent poly from the existing zoning poly layer, and then add it back to the current zoning layer to fill that hole, thus updating the zoning layer for that one area (this is currently what I am doing by hand). I thought that if you could iterate this over and over it would create the layer I need, but I cannot figure out how to get it done.
Also, this is my first post (of what will probably be many) and I really appreciate any advice or suggestions!
