I am using ArcView 9.3. I've got a slope degree raster in FGDBR format.  When I try to convert this raster layer to polygons using ArcToobox's Raster to Polygon converter I am unsuccessful because it won't accept the file in the input raster field.  I suspect it may be because the file doesn't have a value attribute table.  How should I proceed?

you will have to reclassify the floating point slope values into integer classes (ie 5-10 deg slope = class 1 etc etc) so that you have the required integer grid to convert to polygons.  check the help files for more details.
