why is Python taking so long to run an operation?

I have a script in Python 2.7 that mosaics together a couple hundred rasters, I'm running the script directly in the Python shell. Here's the line of code:

arcpy.MosaicToNewRaster_management(rastersListString, outFilePath, outFile, "#", "32_BIT_FLOAT", "#", "1", "LAST", "FIRST")

It works but takes an incredibly long time compared to running the same operation with the Mosaic to New Raster tool in ArcMap, about 140 minutes vs. 3 minutes.  Does anyone know an explanation for this or how to resolve it?  Thanks!
