Network File

Question asked by 20800563 on Nov 29, 2018

Hi all,

I have CSD coordinates and border coordinates for Canada. (I have latitude and longtitude information). I would like to see which roads can be used to go from origin to destination points. For instance, from going Toronto to Vancouver, I would like to see which roads can be used by crossing the border and by not crossing the border to arrive in Vancouver. Also, which roads providing shortest path to go from Toronto to Vancouver.

To see this network, I am using road network file for Canada, which is available from this site:

https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2011/geo/RNF-FRR/index-eng.cfm

To have what I am trying to see, can I use this road network file with CSD coordinates and border coordinates ? Can I combine these 3 data file ?

Or should I find another data set instead of road network file ? I am trying to use this road network file, but I am unsure,I can not see the roads clearly. I feel like I am doing something wrong.

Should I use North America Detailed street file instead of road network file ?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.!!

Thank you so much!
