I have a polygon shape file containing A, B, C classified classes derived from high resolution image (0.5 m). How can I create a feature or a table which presents the area of each class inside of each designed cell (e.g., 5m by 5m)? Thanks!
Does it have a projected coordinate system? (aka, something not in decimal degrees)
If so, bring it into a geodatabase as a featureclass, using the Copy Features or the Featureclass to Featureclass tool and area will automatically calculated.
if you just want it in the shapefile, add a new field to the table, and use Calculate Geometry to get the area.
If the file is not in a projected coordinate system, then you need to project it to one using the Project Tool OR remember to set a projection while doing either of the above.
Thus will only compute the area of each polygon which belonged to class A,
B, C. My question is that if I created an 5m by 5m grid with same coverage
of shape file. How can I created an aggregate feature class or a table
which will show the area of each class in a cell (5m by 5m)?
Tabulate area if you have the appropriate licence
Tabulate Area—Help | ArcGIS Desktop
You may be able to use "intersect" tool in conjunction with Dan's comment about calculating the geometry of the resulting polygons to get what you need.
