Hello!

I am trying to generate address locator for a swedish customer who uses arcmap 10.4.1.

The table of feature class includes: Address such as "Rigstavägen 63", Postcity (such as "Söråker") and postcode.

I choose the style "Gazetteer" and use Address for Place Name, Postcity for Neighborhood.

But I couldn't get any field for postcode.

When I use the locator to search for address "Rigstavägen 63", I got "Rigstavägen 63, Söråker" as Match_addr.

My question is how to add postcode to this Locator?

Thanks for your support in advance!

Wendy,

You need to create an additional locator for postal codes. Once that has been created you need to create a Composite Address Locator which should have inputs as the single address locator for postal codes and the one using the Gazetteer address locator style.

The Composite address locator should be able to locate the data based on just the postal codes as well. I am not sure how the postal codes are for Sweden but if I am not mistaken you guys should have a 5-digit postal codes, so you can try using the US Address—ZIP 5-Digit address locator style and see f it fits your requirements.

Please refer the following for more details:

Keep in mind that US Address—ZIP 5-Digit address locator style has been specifically designed for addresses in US, so you might have to alter the fields in your input feature class.

I hope this helps!

Hi Shan!

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes I did composite address locator before but it didn’t meet our customer’s need.

What they want is to search for an address and get the postcode together with the address as candidates.

See the picture below, the postcode is missing in the Match_addr. Is it possible to adjust the Gazetteer style code and add a field like postcode in the style?

Thanks again for your help!

Wendy

Thank you for sharing the sample data. Based on the sample a typical address should be something like Rigstavagen 63, Soraker, 86035? (Do feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Any chance you have a single field for address where you have the complete address. If you do not have the complete address (this is just for testing purposes) can you try to create a text field and concatenate the addresses including the postal code and while creating the address locator map the new address field against CITY.

I hope this helps!

Hi Shan,

Thanks for your reply!

I have tested this method this morning and got a correct result.

Our customer has SDE gdb so I had to export the data into file gdb so that I could add a new field and calculated the address value.

The wishes from our customer is to avoid using file gdb and the address locator could be updated time to time.

The locator will be published on arcgis server and used by a third party program.

So any suggestion on this requirement?

Best regards!

Wendy
