Why does a primary key of a origin table change when a field (not a key) in the destination table changes value?

Question asked by mmccullough on Sep 11, 2018

I have two feature classes, a Stormwater Facility point and a Stomwater Drainage Area polygon.  There is a simple relationship, no messages based on a primary key of an id field and a foreign key of an id field.  However, when I change a field in the Stormwater Drainage Area polygon that represents the link to its PDF plan the related Stormwater Facility point id field changes and the relationship then does not represent.  What is going on?
