Can you link the results of filtering on different layers in a Map app?

Question asked by nomisc on Sep 5, 2018

I have two layers for the same data in my map to facilitate zooming controlled by setting visibility scales; one is just a point; the other either a 500m buffer or the actual boundary of a feature. When zoomed out you just get the points, then as you zoom in you get the feature. So far so normal. The problem is that if you use the filter on the points layer to see only the type you want, as you zoom in and the points are replaced by polygons, the filter is no longer operative and all the features on the layer reappear. I could of course add a new filter and then re-filter on the newly visible layer, but I wondered whether it's possible to link the results of filters in some way based on the underlying data.

Alternatively, is there a better way of what I'm doing with two layers and visibility to remove the need for two filters?

Thanks
