Joining a table to an index layer breaks map series

Discussion created by epratt@sunpacific.com on Aug 30, 2018

I have an index layer that I am using to drive a map series in ArcGIS Pro. I then need to join a table (Excel) to this layer in order to display dynamic text on each map page. After joining, I can continue navigating between pages, exporting, etc. However, after certain actions, such as saving and reopening the document, the map series disappears. The page list in the table of contents becomes empty, and I am no longer able to refresh the map series. I cannot recreate it using the map series menu either, even if I remove the joined table first.

The only workflow I have found is to remove the join, save, close, reopen the project, recreate the map series, and then perform the join.

Any thoughts?
