ArcGIS Desktop on a web server?

We've got a project that we don't want to publish as a geoprocessing service using AGS due to certain organizational needs and we're using a .NET MVC application and a python script to get the processing done instead. Since the .NET web app will be published onto this web server, we need a way to run an ArcPy script. To use ArcPy, you've got to have desktop or AGS installed on whatever machine is running the script, so I'm planning on installing ArcGIS Desktop on the web server. Has anybody ever done this before and are there any foreseeable problems with it (aside from not being best practice)?
