"Heat map" with unevenly distributed points

I have a data set with points that are unevenly distributed, lie on top of each other. Each point has a value between 0 and 1. I want to create a heat map, or something similar, where areas with points with generally higher values is colored in e.g. red and areas with generally lower values are colored e.g. blue.

I first used a kernal function with the "value" in the population field, but that obviously doesn't work as there are more points in some places than others and the heat will be mostly affected by the number of points and not the values.

I suppose I should use some kind of interpolation, but I really want the smooth surface of a heat map. Does anyone know how to solve this? I am quite new to ArcGIS, I'm sure that there is a solution out there...

Thanks!
