interpretation: Doesn't matter, that is how they defined a width (aka, length) in terms of an area.

I thought you were trying to understand how the units were derived.
It appears the question is focused on how you associate that data with the stream segments. (is this homework or some procedure you are trying to follow from a publication?)

I did all the operations of getting a stream lines from a hydro_DEM then this is the last operation should i do and i can't discern it's meaning or the next step to approach it
