Where can I get GIS datasets for China?

Question asked by glen.johnson on Oct 5, 2017

I would like provincal boundaries for China, at the very least.

Any other Chinese GIS data that is publicly available would be helpful.

I do have air monitoring data through a site at Harvard, but that's it.

Other than the U of Michigan, who charges alot for the data, I cannot seem to track anything down.

U Michigan posts some free shapefiles, but they are old and problematic.  For example, no projection info, making it hard to re-project. Also, many extraneous small polygons that are "tied" to a mainland province, making it hard to just delete them.
