I have tried installing the Solution Deployment Tool on two separate systems. One was performed on ArcGIS Pro 1.4.1 and the second install was at ArcGIS Pro 2.0.0 and both times it has corrupted the base ArcGIS Pro installation.

ArcGIS Pro after installation no longer opens! It goes straight to the report a crash screen. "ArcGIS Pro has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue."  I will have to uninstall all ArcGIS Pro components and re-install the base installation. I can not continue to attempt using the Solutions Deployment Tool it is not safe for installation and I recommend anyone attempting to install this product to stay away. It is a very simple installation that should cause no issues. However, this is not the case.

STAY AWAY!

Hi John,

Would you mind sharing the crash dump file with me? The knowledge base document below describes where you can find the crash dump on your machine. This will be helpful in debugging what is going on.I worked with several users who have been able to successfully install the add-in and use it so I am really interested to see what may be occurring in your case so we can prevent it from happening for other users.

FAQ: Where are the ArcGIS crash dump files saved when an error report is generated?

Thanks,

-Chris

A brief review of my issue (below) to help you understand.

I am trying to successfully install ArcGIS Pro 2.0 with the solutions deployment tool add-in and the space time cube explorer add-in.

When I installed the add-in(s) it caused a fatal error to ArcGIS Pro 2.0. "ArcGIS Pro has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue."

My current install of ArcGIS Pro 2.0 is crashing at the blue launch pop-up window and will not open.

This is my second attempt installing the solutions deployment tool. During my first attempt I tried on a different pc using version 1.4.1.

My first attempt at fixing this was in April, 2017. My support case for that was: Case number: 01914756.

I hope this background information will assist you with this issue.

Hello,

I tried moving the Add-In folder to a location ArcGIS Pro could reach. I closed the application and reopened. The fatal error reappears.

I did this on my 1.4.1 machine and my 2.0 machine. The two machines are on different domains. One uses active directory (2.0) and the other is a novell based login manager (1.4.1).

I just wanted to bring this to your attention. When I find a solution or workaround I will post.

Hi John,

Below is the exception that is being thrown that is causing the crash. When ArcGIS Pro starts it attempts to unpack any installed add-ins to an AssemblyCache folder in your user profile. This is where the add-in is executed from. It is crashing due to an exception being thrown because your user doesn't have permissions to access that folder. This is different from the folder the add-in is originally installed to, you don't have control over where the add-in dll is unpacked.

However, what is confusing is your user should have access to all folders under your user profile unless an administrator on the machine has restricted access. Is it possible that there could be some custom permissions set on your user profile folders? Could you try browsing to the AssemblyCache folder referenced below? Are you able to create new folders and files in that directory?

I changed the privileges to the AppData folder and all subfolders. I tested my results by creating a New Folder in the AssemblyCache folder and the add-in still causes ArcGIS Pro 1.4.1 and ArcGIS Pro 2.0 to not start up.

Do you see the folder called {a8c04e88-6d5d-498d-ad00-b76b409b5cd3} in the assembly cache folder? If not could you try creating it, and are you able to create a new text file in that directory? If it still fails could you send me the new crash dump?

Hi Chris,

I created a New Folder and a *.TXT file in the {a8c04e88-6d5d-498d-ad00-b76b409b5cd3} folder. It still crashes at startup with the add-in.
