This started happening about 2 months ago. I have to log out of ArcGIS online and load the document, which kills all of my links to online hosted content. I've cleared registry and temp files etc...
Can you copy and paste the text from that error message popup? It's hard to read from the screenshot.
Sorry about the screenshot. I guess thats the trouble with 4k monitors...
It indicates that a newer version of arcmap was used to create the file, but you indicate that you are using 10.5 or it was opened by some unknown program. Can you provide anything that you might have done or installed during that time period? In the interim, you could try a 'repair' of your installation of ArcMap incase there has been some corruption in the way a project was saved. Also, nothing from the project has been touched by PRO has it?
I just got around to trying the "Repair" installation process. I did not alter the process in any way.
I've opened a couple mxd files and everything seems to be back to normal operating procedure. My custom settings/styles were retained as well.
Thank you for the tip.
I can't seem to pinpoint what exactly the problem is now.
I uninstalled 10.5 and did a complete reinstall. Some mxd files work fine, others do not. Again, if I sign out of AGOL then open an mxd, eventually everything will load into the layout. However all AGOL data links are broken and I am asked to log in repeatedly for each layer that was linked to AGOL.
This is beyond GeoNet help... zip, ship and file a ticket with tech support is my advice.
