Label rotation by field value in 10.4.1?

Hello,

I am unable to figure how to specify using a field value for label rotation in 10.4.1. I have tried both the regular and maplex engines. I found some online guidance for using maplex in 10.3.1 but the pop-up window items in 10.4 don't match the description.

I know I did this previously (ca. 2008, may have been running v9.3.1 at the time), I thought associated with basic labeling.  Perhaps I had converted to annotation?

Label rotation using a field... for 10.5, but you can change it to 10.4 and prior versions in case there is any difference
