I have images in a project like satellite images or aerial photos in tiff or jpg format that turn black after a while. Can any one explain why and how to restore the image without having to restart Arcgis?. Thanks
what do you mean after a while? Do the images gradually fade to black? Are you zooming in and out? Does this occur when you do something particular?
The images just turn black, no fading. They are black whether I zoom in or out. No warning, just when I open the file the image files are black.
Did you try playing the Raster layer Stretch Type?
I haven't played around with the images. They are fine once and then turn entirely black. If I reopen Arcgis the images are fine again. Not sure what is causing this.
You aren't giving enough information. You should detail all the settings you're using:
You could start analyzing by creating a new project (saved locally) with only one image in it's Dataframe, with the Raster Layer Stretch Type set as None and monitor it's behavior.
Apart from the above you might want open a support incident at ESRI, where they can help you more thoroughly with more resources then here.
