Any recommendations on laptops for arcgis? I am getting a new laptop with an extra screen. I'd like to know if anyone has a good setup/workflow.
Essentially the most powerful gaming laptop you can buy. Many of the hardware requirements for ArcGIS are going to going to be similar to gaming. Though, arguably gaming may be more hardware intensive.
Arguably Xeon processors and Quadro GPU's are more geared towards engineering practices.
I use ArcGIS Pro at work sometimes and I can also use it at home. And the difference when running it on my gaming laptop are significant.
I recently convinced our IT department to get me from an i3 to an i7 processor and the different when doing field calculator and any large geoprocessing event has been significant.
Basics to look for
16 GB of ram or more
i7 processor with a minimum of 4 cores
Higher End GPU Quadro, Nvidia or Radeon
Unless you really have a need for a laptop you will save money with a tower. In any event if your going with multiple monitors your really going to want to consider a docking station with multiple monitor support. I think you would find serious GIS work on a small laptop monitor for an extended period of time to be frustrating.
