We recently upgraded from ArcGIS 10.2.2 to 10.4.1. When trying to open an .mxd with certain users, ArcMap crashes with a fatal error. These same users, however, are able to open the .mxd files in 10.2. version. Anyone with similar issues?
Where is the data coming from? By chance are you using a SQL Server Geodatabase? If so, we recently released a patch to address some crashing issues.

We are using a SQL Server Geodatabase, but these particular users are accessing shapefiles only, on a different server, not associated with the SQL database.

I tried everything above and for me....deleting the "ArcGIS" folder where the "Default.gdb" is located worked.
