After viewing the following storymap (A River Reborn), I became interested in automating the video content on the page in which the video is embedded.  Was this done as a customization to the source code, or does the ability to configure the storymap exist to autoplay the video on the page whenever that page is shown?  If this is configurable in the Esri-hosted template, how is it done?  And if it has to be done through customized code, what is a good resource to help me investigate the process of doing this?  Also, is there the ability to embed live video in a storymap?  Or a string of "live" photos from wildlife trail cams, as another example?

Thanks Richard, my colleague John Nelson deserve the credits for creating that series of tutorial, we have two more by the way

Yes embedding a Cascade in Map Series should works really well, I don't have any specific recommendation we have some general tips about that in the following blog posts:

- Embedding a Story Map within a Story Map | ArcGIS Blog

- Embedding apps and websites in Story Maps | ArcGIS Blog

Hi Richard,

Video will start playing automatically if it is used in an immersive section, but a video that's inserted in-line in a sequential section doesn't so your readers will have to click to play it.

You can add almost anything on the web to your story, so if you have a link to a live video stream or a trail cam you should be able to use it. When inserting media go to the Link to Content tab and paste in the web address of the page you want to use or the iframe embed code for what you want to embed.

I apologize for the lack of knowledge, but can you help me better understand your comment “if it is used in an immersive section, but a video that's inserted in-line in a sequential section?”

Not sure what you mean by immersive or sequential section and how you have control over either. Thanks again.

Hi Richard,

We still working on making it easier to discover what is an Immersive section and what is Sequential. You probably already use both. Immersive is the one where the narrative panel is scrolling over a full-page media. The following story will show show you example of that https://nation.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Cascade/index.html?appid=5cd671a4cf1844b7854220979574b927

Okay, that was insanely helpful, educational, cool, and entertaining ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Your vision and way of explaining these things is VERY valuable. You need a raise.

Cheers, my friend!

Just out of curiosity…any early reports of how imbedding a cascade into some other story map format, say Tabbed Series, behaves? Just curious…I have a nice tabbed series story we have already published, and that is THE format for this series of maps…but I would LOVE to use some immersive content in one or two of the 19 tabs in this series…just thinking about it. Thought if you had some insight you could share, it would be helpful. Thanks again!
