There is a link about grouping layers of a Map Scene in ArcGIS Online but is there any way to group similar layer together in a web map of AGOL? Thanks
As of now, the idea of grouping layers in ArcGIS Online is still being "considered". You can vote it up on the Ideas page:
To follow up with this... There is kind of a crude way of grouping layers, but it has to happen on the desktop side first, then get published to the web. Take a look at this article:
43403 - Does ArcGIS Online support publishing group layers as feature services?
Users may group layers of feature services, publish the group layer to ArcGIS for Server, and consume ArcGIS for Server services through ArcGIS Online by adding the group as a layer to the web map.
Though, to add to this, once this group layer is created, you can't really modify it on the online side. It has to be manipulated on the desktop side.
Thanks Adrian, very helpful and hopefully AGOL considers adding this option to the webmap application of AGOL.
I completely agree. That "idea" has a ton of votes so I would think it would be highly considered.
I guess that first link no longer works. Here is an updated link:
Group layers for ArcGIS online
That idea has been changed to "In Product Plan"! Yay!
In the meantime, you can "group" layers if you publish your own layers. When you publish multiple layers in a single web service, they get added to your web map as a group. I've been publishing a web service with as many as 80 layers, adding the whole service to my web map, and then manually removing the layers I don't need in the group. It is super tedious when you have a lot of layers to remove, but at least the end result is what I need.
