Hello,

We recently updated a toughpad to windows 10 and installed Collector.  When we have WiFi or mobile data connection Collector is able to find our location easily but once we leave that there is no location.  The toughpad used to work fine with ArcPad so has a working GPS unit.  Has anyone successfully updated a toughpad to Windows 10 successfully? If so do you have any tips?

We tried GPS complete without any luck.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

In Windows 10 Collector no longer has direct access to the Toughpad's GPS receiver's data stream. You need to install 3rd-party software (e.g., GPSComplete) to feed the GPS's data stream to the Windows Locator Service, thereby making it visible to Collector. When you have a network connection, then Collector is showing the location that the network is reporting to the Windows Locator Service.

See this earlier GeoNet thread for more details:

We had tried an eval of GPSComplete after seeing that thread a few weeks ago but still had no luck.  Is a full license required for it to work?

We were successful in testing the eval version, so we went ahead and purchased the full version. For us, when we installed the Sensor Driver the correct parameters were COM3 and 4800 baud, if that helps.

Hi Peter,

We are trying to get the internal GPS working for a Windows 10 Esri app on a Panasonic FZ-G1. On same device, we have the _external_ (USB) GPS working in a Win 10 app using GPS Complete.

Couple quick questions:

  • You wrote that you used these parameters: COM3 and 4800 baud. Was this for the internal GPS (integrated in the Panasonic device), or an external GPS?
  • Does your internal GPS appear in Windows Device Manager? If yes, does it appear under Ports or elsewhere?

Thanks,

-Cory
