Looking for a Base Map

Hello all,

I am working on a project where I need to use a base map and the maps that are in the default base layer tab are not exactly what I want to use. For a couple reasons, such as: not being up-to-date enough, or not the right layout. The map is being used as the basemap to our parking restriction graphical image.

I know that one has the ability to draw in layers from the web by searching, but the ones that I found are not ones that are appealing to me. I was wondering if I could draw in google maps, or maybe just hide some of the many images in "open streets" (hide the picnic benches, parking image, restuarant etc).

Hi Eric,

Where are you located? Sometimes that has a big factor on what you can and cannot use. I'm not sure about being able to turn off certain features within Openstreetmap.

It seems like the Google question is brought up a lot and there never seems to be a good answer to that question. There is a link for using Google Maps Layer for ArcGIS JavaScript API but it may not work now?

Also, there is some info in this post from Kevin MacLeod:

I actually responded to a post last month about this (I kind of forgot about it...)

I hope you find something that works!

Just to follow up, did any of these options work out?

Hi Eric,

I'm also curious where you are and how you made out. I'm in BC, Canada. Our Provincial government has some great resources for base maps. Maybe you could find something similar:

BC Web Map Library - Datasets - Data Catalogue

I'm at Virginia Tech, Civil engineering. I am looking into what you

provided, but I have not decided on one choice yet. Also I went to Montreal

last summer, I loved it there. Thanks for being so helpful. I'm sure I will

have many more questions in the future.

Good luck with your project!

I'm jealous that you've been to Montreal. Unfortunately, it is about 4000 km (roughly 2500 miles) from me so I've never been. I live just a few hours from Vancouver, though. Such a beautiful city!
