Odd Japanese Characters in Date field

I have noticed that Japanese characters display in the attribute table for a date field ([EventDate]) if the date is 1/1/1600 or earlier.  This is a point feature class for event locations in the USA.

See attached screen shot.

Is this a known bug or is there a date limitation?

  • dates range between January 1, 0100, to December 31, 9999. Keep in mind that date calculations using and producing date values earlier than the year in which the Gregorian calendar was adopted, may not be appropriate.

It appears to be a bug, you should submit an Esri Support incident (Incident opened, bug logged).

I can reproduce the behavior using a table in a file geodatabase.  If you use a cursor, the correct values are shown, it is just a display issue in ArcGIS Pro.

Was this ever resolved? I have encountered a similar problem using "Map Time" overlays (i.e. a dynamic text for dates) within a time animation in ArcGIS Pro 2.2.2., but only with dates on or before 1/1/1600. In those instances, the dynamic date text simply does appear in the overlay.
