Unfixed bug BUG-000086039

This bug concerns feature classes (and probably dbf's)

created from .csv files.

Text fields are created with a length of 8000(!)

The description of the bug in the database is that it is closed

and that it will not be addressed.

It seems to be reported in version 10.3 of ArcGIS.

Well, why will it not be addressed?

Are ESRI saying it is benign? Does it not

waste space in a geodatabase?

What about when I export the feature class

to a csv?

And who or what came up with this absurd value anyway?

It is not even a power of 2.

It is incredibly annoying to search the bug database,

find the appropriate bug, and see that its disposition

is described as " Closed. Will not be Addressed"

without any justification.
