Error converting .tif to .asc

I am trying to convert a .tif DEM to .asc using the convert from Raster to ASCII tool. Every time I get an error. I have tried converting it to GRID first but I get an error when I try to convert it to GRID. Any suggestions?

What errors are you receiving?  Are you using any special characters in the file name or in the file path where it is being saved, or spaces in the path name?  Have you tried saving the ascii to another simpler directory(C:\)?  Are you making sure to put a filetype at the end of your output ascii name (ex test1.asc)?

Sometimes geoprocessing tools have a limit on how long of a path name and file name can be used for a tool.  Generally when you get General Errors (999999 errors) it can be because of something like that.
