Exporting blended rasters

Using Arc10.2.

I'm attempting to create a seamless blend between a high-res and a low-res 3 band raster (aerial photos) and then export to tiff so the seamless image can be used in another application.

Setting up the blend is no problem....

  1. Add rasters to mosaic
  2. Build seamlines
  3. Set mosaic properties to 'Blend'

However the process of outputting to a tiff using MosaicToNewRaster takes a very long time - I have tested with a blend size of 50 pixels and it takes an hour; but the blend size I'd like, to get the effect I want, will be more like 200-300 pixels - so I'm testing this and I'm waiting and waiting and waiting......4 hours and counting.....

I'm doing this with Python because it's a process I might need to repeat many times so this long processing time is not good.

Can anyone suggest any ways I may get quicker results?

(I have a powerful machine with a good graphics card)
