I have a DEM and I want to select only the area that is between specific elevations for analysis. For example, I want to find out how much of the area is between 1650 meters and 1659 meters elevation. What tools should I use to do this?
One way would be to reclassify your DEM into three classes (<1650, 1650-1659, >1659) and in the attribute table of this raster take the number of pixels from the class 1650-1659 and multiply that with the area of 1 pixel.
Thanks so much. That works great. Is the "COUNT" field in the new raster a count of the cells in that classification? I calculated out the areas using the numbers in that field multiplied by the raster size and using the measuring tool and they came out very different, so I wondered if I'm misinterpreting the "COUNT" field.
cell size reports the cell width which means, for square cells means size**2 (squared) * count = area
Also, a Con raster calculator expression like below will produce a new raster showing only the desired pixels, NODATA elsewhere:
Con(("YOUR_RASTER" >= 1650) & ("YOUR_RASTER" <= 1659), "YOUR_RASTER")
Thanks, that makes sense.
