Make XY Event Layer: 2 Shape Fields

I needed to create polygon centroids with Basic license (so, no Feature to Point). The general solution is to calculate centroid coordinates to two fields, export the table to a standalone table, then Make XY Event Layer, I thought I could skip a step by using Make XY Event Layer on the original table itself, using the calculated coordinates, but, to my surprise, the output point event layer contained two geometry fields. This is bizarre, right? There was no error thrown making the event layer, and I'm exporting maps displaying this event layer as I write, but there is an error when I attempt to export the event layer to a feature class, due to it having two geometry fields.

I don't have a question, just curious what others may have to say about this.
