Portal with Web Adaptor for IIS showing only checkbox and other icons

So, this is a solution to a problem I encountered, and spent several hours with ESRI trying to troubleshoot, only for it to be a simple setting causing the issue.  When using the webadaptor, the Portal site only showed four icons, and would not display the Portal home.  If I went directly to the Portal link, it showed the full site.  This wound up being due to a setting in URLSCAN.INI which prevents IIS from using folders with dots in the folder name.  Some of the javascript subfolders used by the webadaptor for IIS have dots.  To resolve, you must:

  1. Go to Windows\system32\inetsrv\urlscan\urlscan.ini
  2. Set AllowDotInPath=1, then save the file.
  3. In CMD prompt, type IISRESET

This also caused the WebAdaptor for ArcGIS Server to spin the candystripe progress bar and lag out, instead of finishing my login through the adaptor, although the normal ArcGIS Server login through port 6080 was fine.

One other hint was that the problem on Portal did cause an error on page with dojo.js

Hope this helps someone, could have used this to save me 8 hours to have this posted, so thought I'd put it out here.
