can I run the wab developer version as http or does it need to be https?

my life would be simpler if I don't have to deal with certificates.

I am using it behind the firewall with portal so it doesn't need to be encrypted.

Glenn,

Portal is the the product that requires the use of HTTPS. If you were not using portal then https would not be an issue.

you are wonderful to respond so quickly.

how is then that I can have webmaps and use the builtin wab with portal that do not have https in the url?

I should go back and read the install directions.. maybe this is about the nodes.js  setup?

sorry to be dense but I am easily confused when it comes to all the variations on security

Glenn,

Maybe you are mixing up terminology then. Local Portal has a https requirement.

I am sure you are right.

I am having trouble getting portal configured properly.

example-- I can't switch the geometry service to my local arcserver setup on the same box as portal.

I am guessing it has to do with certificates as I am using the one I made.

I also see I have to switch to https only if I want to use windows authentication.

I do have to use https to log onto portal but once I am on if I share the webmaps with everyone they seem to function fine with http.. including the built in webappbuilder.

all this gets back to one of my earlier queries about a nice clear and understandable explaination of how to set things up including the iis options (windows and/or anonymous)..

I will fumble along some more. thanks for your observations.
