I am looking for converting my xlsx file to gis.
There are a lot of ways to do that. Here are two. You can load it to a geodatabase using ArcCatalog, within a geodatabase right click - import - table, navigate to the XLSX. You can also add the XLSX to ArcMap and view it as a table, if it has Lat/Long fields you can display a point dynamically by right clicking on the table - Create Feature Class - From XY Table. Good luck and if you have a more specific task or details I can help better.
I am new to this. If i have zipcode and state values in my csv or xls file
, how can convert it gis. I really appreciate your help.
Iavanya, I think I need more information to provide a better response but given what you said it sounds like you are trying to geocode addresses? If so, you need more than just the state and zip fields, also you need to use the Geocoding Tools in ArcToolbox.
Or do you just want a point file for each zipcode in the table?
From your email i think point file for each zipcode in the table will help
This is my file. I need to map this dataset so that higher member zipcode
will appear as a darker color shading. Can you please help me on this.
As Ben mentioned, there are several ways to do this. Without knowing your specific goal, it's hard to choose which method.
Another method would be to join your table to an existing GIS layer. ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2)
Hope this helps,

Here is a link to publicly available zip codes for the US hosted on ArcGIS Online. Download this layer, add it to ArcMap, and join the Zip Code layer to your zip code table, then symbolize by the Members field in your table.
