I want to discuss the pros and cons of depending on the feature services in the concurrent editing transactions rather that the direct connections or SDE connection to the database.For the time being i see that with building your editing environment on the ArcGIS for server instead of the database connection we can get benefit from the server options such as pooling, authentication, authorization, work locally and sync with the server at the end, better integration with ArcGIS for Portal and finally set the default cartography for you data.
I am waiting for your opinions.
