I moved jobs then. It seems all of my history does not follow me. Is this correct.
I have been a registered user on the ESRI site since 1999. Is it possible to re-connect that profile with this new one?
The date corresponds to the date the Jive account was created. Although you use your Esri Account to log in, it still creates a new identify for the community. There may be a way to look up the creation date from the old forums, but I doubt we will be able to go more than 4 years back as that is all we migrated over from the vBulletin system.
That is the case for everyone.
I guess this happened when we migrated from the previous Esri Forums to GeoNet.
If Esri was able to migrate old forums to GeoNet, and even go back and mark "Correct" answers, why can't user's registration dates be updated? This seems more like a lack of will than technical limitation.
Frankly, I don't really care about the dates much. Even now, I hardly ever, on second thoughts never, check the "MEMBER SINCE" or "LAST LOGGED IN" for a Member.
The only thing that I think I miss, will be the Points that the Members had raked up, Status (Senior Member\MVP) and the # of Posts count to some extent, from the previous Forums. It gave us a good idea about a Member.
Weren't the old, or some of the old, forum posts that migrated over attributed to the corresponding GeoNet user? It seems some of the points from the old system migrated when old threads that started getting migrated were marked as "correct", but I don't know to what extent.
To play devil's advocate, one could argue that a bunch of points racked up using ArcGIS 9.2 or 9.3 doesn't necessarily apply to now. Total points is one thing, but how current points are is another. Although I don't support the argument one could say resetting points shows who is most senior and current.
When the migrated questions were marked correct, the system awarded points to the person with the correct reply. Since this is a complete different community, there is no way to transfer over the old points and recognition as the point systems are completely different. There is functionality to identify senior/MVP member similar to the Esri employee globe, but that has not been implemented yet.
Makes sense, the point systems are quite a bit different. It would be nice to enable the senior/MVP functionality, though.
Four years does provide a bit more context than 6 months, which we currently have now.
I can't recall, are the discussions older than 4 years still available as an archive somewhere?
Yes, posts older than 4 years are still available for public access. Here is an example from 2003:
Version: Unable to reconcile
Thanks, good to know.
yes, that is it.
it was helpful to see who you were speaking to, whether from the points or the years spent on the forums.
it is classic ESRI, get you thinking one way, get your buy in, then completely change direction.
I presume we will see more of the same, a la AGOL and that rot.
