Changing the Portal for ArcGIS Account

I am trying to create a back up strategy for the Portal content (working with vs 10.2.2).  In order to move the content directory to another machine, I have to change the portal account from the local system account to a domain account.  This action appears to break the portal, as it is no longer reachable after this is done.  The domain account has the appropriate permissions for the portal installation and content directories.  This is the same account that is used for ArcGIS Server (fairly certain that wouldn't matter, but perhaps the information is relevant).  I know I am not providing much information here, but I have no idea where to even start troubleshooting this.  The help doc at ArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2)  would have you believe that this task should be straight forward. 


Has anybody run into this issue and if so, do you have a starting point for troubleshooting?
