I have a map of a distrbution/pipe systen and was wondering if I could somehow get ArcMap to locate the bendings (or corners). Does anyone have an idea how (if possible) I can do this?
Vertices to points might be an idea?
ArcGIS Desktop "Feature Vertices To Points"
You are going to have to describe the tolerance of what constitutes a bend in terms of degrees of deflection, for an example a Y, a T, the X etc or are you just looking for deflection of consecutive points or line segments. There are options to do both of these
I have Y's, T's and X's which I would like to be able to locate. And also, when a pipe bends more than for example 120 degrees. Would you happen to know how to do this?
Not sure if there is a straight forward way to achieve this. I have modified my curve calculator script to create a point approximately where a line bends. This processes one line at a time, if your lines tend to bend at intersection between two lines this script will not be of use.
Create a script tool with below parameters
Tweak the sampling length and ratio to meet your need, if your data has sharp bends otherwise straight lines, use a small sampling distance say 10 meters and roughly around 0.9 as ratio.
